Etsy sellers often underestimate their total fees. Here's a complete breakdown of every fee you pay and how to price for actual profit.

Step 1 — Enter your sale price and shipping

Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee applies to both item price and shipping. Enter the price you charge buyers and the shipping amount you charge. If you offer free shipping, enter $0 for shipping charged — but include your actual shipping cost in the 'my shipping cost' field.

Step 2 — Check the Offsite Ads toggle

If your annual Etsy sales are under $10,000, you can opt out of Offsite Ads in your shop settings. If over $10,000, participation is mandatory. Offsite Ads may add an additional fee when enabled — check your shop settings to see if this applies.

Step 3 — Enter your item cost and shipping cost

Your item cost is what you spend on materials, supplies, or wholesale goods. Your shipping cost is what you actually pay the carrier. The calculator shows whether you're making or losing money on shipping separately.

Step 4 — Review the fee breakdown

The results show each Etsy fee line by line: listing fee, transaction fee, payment processing, and Offsite Ads if applicable. This lets you see exactly where your money is going and which fee type is the largest.

💡 Pro tips

  • Etsy's listing fee ($0.20) auto-renews every time an item sells — factor this in for high-volume listings
  • Free shipping boosts your search ranking slightly — build average shipping into your item price
  • If under $10K/year in sales, opt out of Offsite Ads in Shop Settings > Offsite Ads
  • Etsy Plus ($10/month) gives listing credits but rarely pays for itself unless you list 40+ items/month
